The Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce continues to explore new ways to engage members and improve the economic vitality of the city. To that end, the inaugural meeting of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce’s Large Business Committee was held April 16 at Dividend Homes.

The goal of this committee is to create a forum where executives of large businesses in Morgan Hill can gather to discuss common problems. Chamber Board of Directors Jeff Mitchell and Steve Kinsella are coordinating the semi-monthly meetings.

Participants at the inaugural meeting included executives from Dividend Homes, Anritsu, Heritage Bank, Main Street Media, city of Morgan Hill, Gavilan College and Pinnacle Manufacturing. The committee is next scheduled to meet at noon June 18 at Dividend Homes in Morgan Hill. The topic will be Health Care in South County.

In the never ending search to create the optimal work and life balance for its workforce, large businesses have additional challenges as the city of Morgan Hill grows and diversifies its business base. This committee will provide the setting for businesses to identify and discuss approaches to address community and business environmental factors that confront Morgan Hill’s businesses.

Common concerns and topics for discussion are expected to include health care, housing, workforce preparation and retraining, recreational opportunities and a wide range of topics that can affect an employee’s performance in the workplace.

The Large Business Committee seeks to establish a collaborative setting where businesses can work together to share knowledge and best practices to improve the quality of life of our employees and their families.

As the role of the Large Business Committee becomes more defined by the participants, it is expected that this committee will offer a setting without the normal distractions of the workplace where executives can network and form relationships with service providers and other businesses within the community. Although no definition or criteria have been formally established for this committee, if you are a large business operating in Morgan Hill, you are cordially invited to participate in this committee.

The committee is just one of several the Chamber of Commerce has formed to help grow business and improve economic development in Morgan Hill. Others include the Economic Development Committeee, the Education Committee, the Government and Environmental Affairs Committee and the Major Event Committee.

The co-chairs for the Large Business Committee are Steve Kinsella, president of Gavilan College and Jeff Mitchell, publisher at South Valley New Media. Direct questions to (408) 779-9444.
