Bingo benefits bands
• The Live Oak Emerald Regime holds bingo games at the Britton Middle School Auditorium, 80 W. Central Ave., to support band programs. ‘Shakespeare Under the Stars’

• The next Coffee with the Mayor will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at BookSmart, 80 E. Second St. Mayor Tate’s guest will be Councilmember Marilyn Librers. Enjoy a cup of coffee (on the mayor, of course) and enjoy dialog in a relaxed, informal setting. They will answer questions and entertain any suggestions or (constructive) criticism you would like to offer. Many attendees just come to hear what others think are the issues of the day and the ensuing dialog and that is certainly fine also.

Grow cool-season vegetables
• Now is the time to plan a fall/winter garden. Find out how many different vegetables can grow this time of year while using less water at this class from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gilroy Library, 350 W. 6th St. The second class takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Library, 660 W. Main Ave. Learn about the cultural requirements needed to grow these crops successfully. Controlling winter pests will also be covered.  Presented by Master Gardener Joan Cloutier.

Meet the author
Kondazian,Karen-web• Meet Karen Kondazian, the author of “The Whip,” at the Morgan Hill Library, 660 W. Main Ave. at 2 p.m. “The Whip” is inspired by the true story of Charley Parkhurst, a famous stagecoach driver for Wells Fargo during the California Gold Rush days. It wasn’t until after Charley’s death in 1879 that it was discovered that Charley was actually a woman. She is buried in Watsonville pioneer cemetery. Kondazian is an award-winning stage, film and TV actress. “The Whip” is available at BookSmart. For more information, call (408) 782-9029.

Family Fun Nights
• Family Fun Nights at the Pool are here. Bring the entire family to a night of games, music, prizes and lots of splashes from 7 to 9 p.m. All ages are welcome and members are free.

Aug. 16
Photography exhibit
• The Morgan Hill Photography Club, in conjunction with the Morgan Hill Historic Society, is presenting a photo exhibit at the Morgan Hill House, Villa Mira Monte, 17860 Monterey St., through Sept. 20. The Morgan Hill House is open Fridays and Saturdays. The general public is invited to attend the Artists’ Reception Friday, Aug. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m.. Master-Gardeners-VSummer pruning of fruit trees
• Learn the basics of pruning your fruit trees in summer and why summer pruning is so important from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Saint Louise Hospital’s Teaching and Demo Garden, 9400 No Name Uno. They will demonstrate how to “summer prune” and encourage participation. Presented by South County Master Gardeners.

Sept. 7
Labor Day Bingo Marathon
• Two sessions of bingo hosted by the Live Oak Emerald Regime at Britton Auditorium, 80 W Central Ave, Morgan Hill. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. First session at 10 a.m., 2nd session at 1:30. Sept. 13
British classic car show
• The Fourth Annual British Fall Classic automobile show takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in downtown Morgan Hill. Monterey Road will be closed from Dunne to Main avenues r. On Sept. 12 there will be an organized car tour through the scenic Morgan Hill wine country. Saturday evening registered show participants are invited to a wine reception hosted by sponsor On the Road Again Classics, from 4 to 7 p.m. Registration fees are $45 per car until Aug. 31, 2015. It’s Oktoberfest time
