A Good Samaritan bought every firefighter who ate at Scrambl’z their breakfast. Firefighters wanted the anonymous donor to know they appreciate the gesture.

When firefighters from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Santa Clara Unit, the Morgan Hill Fire Department and the South Santa Clara County Fire District went to pay the bill for all the firefighters who ate breakfast at Scrambl’z Diner after battling the Aug. 11 blaze off Tilton Avenue in north Morgan Hill, they were told their tab had been paid.

Fire officials sent out a news release thanking the anonymous Good Samaritan who paid for all the meals. It stated: “The CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit, the Morgan Hill Fire Department and the South Santa Clara County Fire District would like to extend our utmost appreciation, thanks and acknowledge that your kind gesture did not go unnoticed.”

It’s gestures like this that show us there is good in the world. Especially here in Morgan Hill.

Congratulations to the Mount Madonna School’s 2016-’17 boys track and field team which received the California Interscholastic Federation’s top academic honor: “2016-17 State Academic Championship Team Award.”

The team was honored as having the highest collective scholastic average, 3.82, among all California high school boys track and field teams. The members of this team were: Devyn Powers, Isaac Harris, Param Walker, Noah Kaplan, and Noah Tervalon.

“Our second season with the track and field team was one of learning and a lot of fun for our athletes, (coach) Sara (Sobkoviak), and me,” said coach Jenne Miranda Rodrigues. “Though our squad was smaller than last year, the athletes competed in nearly as many events as last year and all our athletes achieved personal records, some a few times during the season. Sara and I ended the season proud of our athletes for both their integrity and athletic performance, as well as the academic accomplishment of the scholastic team award.” Way to go boys!

Emilio, who recently visited the U.S. and his friend Mark Fenichel, holds a copy of Morgan Hill Life in Milan, Italy.

In the early 1990s, Milan, Italy resident Emilio Ratti came to the United States to visit his Chilean girlfriend who at the time was living in San Jose.

Emilio works for RAI Television and was interested in seeing an American television station and KNTV just happened to be around the corner from where she lived. At the time our Advertising/Marketing Director Mark Fenichel was working at that station.

When Emilio and his then girlfriend Susanna — who is now his wife — came into the station for a tour, the management asked Mark to show them around.

The three of them struck up a friendship that has lasted for more than 25 years.

Emilio often reads the paper online to keep up with Mark’s Music In The Air column and other interesting local stories about Morgan Hill and the surrounding areas. On his last trip he was happy to take home a copy of the paper to show his friends and family.

Here is Ratti in Milano, Italy with his copy of Morgan Hill Life. Thanks, Emilio, for taking a copy of Morgan Hill Life all the way to Italy. We appreciate you reading us!
