Learn emergency preparedness

  • The next Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training begins October 25th, is free, and open to all community members in South County. High school students can receive community service hours. There are no physical requirements. The training is a FEMA certified course. Free flu shots

  • Free flu shots from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Library, 660 W. Main Ave., for anyone 18 or older. They are administered by staff of the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health.

Age well, drive smart

  • Tune up your driving skills at the California Highway Patrol and its senior volunteers present a free driving seminar called Age Well Drive Smart and is aimed at senior drivers. Free clothing give-away

  • Cecelia’s Closet, sponsored by the Edward Boss Prado Foundation, invites families to its free clothing give-away from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Closet, 35 Peebles Ave. Adults, children, teens and seniors can select new and gently used clothing are all welcome. Shoes of various sizes also available (one pair per person) and free haircuts. No ID required and no questions will be asked.

Audition for SVCT’s new play

  • Audition signups are now available for South Valley Civic Theatre’s teen show, “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” at Live Oak High School, 1505 E. Main Ave. Performances are Feb. 23 – March 17, 2018.   • Attend the “Black, White & Bling!” Community Solutions’ 6th Annual Gala at 6 p.m. at the Granada Theatre in Morgan Hill. Choosing the best indoor plants

  • Indoor plants can make a room or work cubicle more interesting and bring the outdoors inside, but so many get thrown out after a short time. Find out which ones are the easiest to grow and will look good for a long period of time from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Morgan Hill Library. 660 W. Main Ave. You will learn how easy it is to maintain them. Excellent gift idea if the right one is chosen.

Coffee with the Mayor

  • The next Coffee with the Mayor will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at Grinds, Vines and Automobilia. Newly appointed City Manager Christina Turner will be Mayor Steve Tate’s guest. The Mayor’s Coffees (he buys the coffee) give residents a chance to have a relaxed, informal exchange on any city-related topic. Questions, suggestions, opinions, constructive criticism and general input are not only welcome, but encouraged.

Downtown Historic Walking Tour

  • Take a journey back in time and learn about the historic buildings, their owners and the businesses that have operated in them, from 10 a.m. to noon. The walk is mostly flat and spans the five blocks of downtown. Meet at the plaza in front of the parking garage on Third Street.
