The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters finished counting 99 percent of this year’s ballots as of 9 a.m. Nov. 11. Two close races in Morgan Hill for city council and school board seats have kept citizens in suspense.

John McKay

For District D on the council, candidate John McKay is 45 votes ahead of Julie Makrai Hutcheson. McKay has 1,686 votes (37.05 percent) to Hutcheson’s 1,641 votes (36.07 percent.) On election night, Hutcheson had a significant lead over McKay but as more ballots were counted, he pulled slightly ahead.

John Horner

The race for Trustee Area Seat 2 on the Morgan Hill Unified School District is close and might trigger an automatic recount because the top candidates are less than 25 votes apart. John Horner, with 1,285 votes (37.95 percent), is 23 votes ahead of Tara Bevington who has 1,262 votes (37.27 percent).
