Great job Morgan Hill PD. Morgan Hill Police Chief David Swing spotted a suspicious Dodge Durango about 7:25 a.m. Jan. 27 near Monterey Road and Vineyard Boulevard. After running the license plate, Swing discovered the vehicle was stolen and additional officers responded to the scene.

When the driver failed to stop, an officer bumped the Durango with the bumper of his patrol vehicle, causing the stolen car to crash into a pillar near Troy’s Bocce Ball in the Tennant Avenue Shopping Center. The driver and his female passenger, both from Gilroy, were arrested without incident.

Can’t say enough about the 10 musicians and the 35 or so customers who attended the open mic night at the GVA Cafe Jan. 21 and who raised $200 for John Cary, the homeless man featured in our Jan. 21 issue. It’s people like you all who help make Morgan Hill the caring community it is.

Great things do come in small packages. Morgan Hill Life Publisher Marty Cheek came home for lunch Jan. 28 and learned that Morgan Hill has a brand-new resident. Cheek’s next door neighbors Doug Doan and Ginger Hong introduced him to their baby Dylan Sam Doan, born Jan. 26 weighing six pounds, 12 ounces. The boy was named after the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas and Sam is Doug’s grandfather’s name. Congratulations to the happy family.

Chamber of Commerce Membership Director Erin Machado and Andrew Firestone.

Chamber of Commerce Membership Director Erin Machado and Andrew Firestone.

Welcome to the city, Andrew Firestone. For those unfamiliar, Firestone was on season 3 of “The Bachelor” in 2003. And while he may not have found love on the show, he married actress and model Ivana Bozilovic. They now have a 5-year-old and 1-year-old sons and a 3-year-old daughter.

Firestone, the  great-grandson of Firestone Tire and Rubber Company founder Harvey Firestone, is building a hotel in Morgan Hill and recently joined our Chamber of Commerce. The hotel was unanimously granted approval by the city council last month. Let’s welcome Andrew to our town as he has a proven business track record with his Firestone Vineyards and Firestone Brewery. He told Erin Machado, the Chamber’s membership director, that he wants to be involved in the Tourism and Hospitality Committee.
