With Veteran’s Day here, it’s important to remember and honor our veterans. To that end, Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization that helps communities remember their fallen heroes, is looking to bring the organization to Morgan Hill and Gilroy with the goal of laying a wreath at every veteran’s grave site at Mt. Hope Memorial Park in Morgan Hill and St. Mary’s Cemetery and Gavilan Hill’s Memorial Park in Gilroy.

Ceremonies are scheduled in Morgan Hill and Gilroy at 9 a.m. Dec. 13. The ceremonies will include Color Guard flag presentation, performance of a patriotic song, comments by the respective city mayors, the playing of Taps and finally, the laying of wreaths. So far, the group has raised about 70 percent of the needed funds for about 1,000 wreaths. Anyone interested in donating, e-mail [email protected] or [email protected]

This time of year the focus on the needy and underprivileged is heightened, and there is a way to help. The Live Oak High School Future Business Leaders of America is collecting cans and nonperishable items until Nov. 21. Drop items off at the high school and FBLA members will sort and pack them into boxes before delivering them to 125 families in the Morgan Hill Unified School District area Nov. 26. Please help if you can.

Old Candlestick Park seats.

Anyone who knows me knows I’ve been a San Francisco 49er fan for as long as I can remember. Literally. My dad started taking me to games at Kezar Stadiium when I was about 5, and later our family had season tickets at Candlestick Park. My dad, mom, brother and I attended hundreds of games sitting in the same seats in Section 57, Row 11 until 1998 when my parents retired and stopped going to games. They enjoyed them from the comfort of their living room in Capitola, while I and some friends started a new tradition. When the team moved to Santa Clara, we renewed our commitment. So it was with great joy that I had the opportunity to purchase the old seats from Candlestick that my dad and mom, then later myself and friends, sat it for so many years. They are now installed on my deck and are a wonderful memory. Thanks dad and mom!
