Broadway musical hits are coming to Morgan Hill in May. Families who have children who love to sing and dance will want to check out two events that highlight show-stopper tunes performed by young people.

The Music in Motion program in Morgan Hill schools will put on a special musical review show called “Sing! Sing! Sing!” at 2 and 6:30 p.m. May 14 at Sobrato High School Theater. And South Valley children and young people who love to sing and dance on stage are encouraged to try out for a new film called “Broadway Movie Musical” that will be made in Morgan Hill this summer by filmmaker John Bisceglie.

“’Sing! Sing! Sing!’ is my end-of-the-year performance where we celebrate everything that the students have learned this year,” said Michelle Moyer, who runs The Music in Motion program. “It’s my rising stars from kids at the elementary school level that don’t have to audition.”

The review show lasts about 1 hour and 45 minutes and will feature young children to adolescents performing song and dance tune from Disney movies, the Muppets, classic Broadway music, pop and top-40 songs, she said.

“There’s something for everyone in this show. It’s absolutely a good show to bring kids because the kids will be entertained and inspired to want to be on that stage some day, if they’re not already a part of it,” Moyer said.

Performer Sydney Murphy has done many theater and dance productions and says she has never been in a group quite like Moyer’s.

“Music In Motion has given me the chance to shine on a stage without the massive time commitment and stress of a typical theater production,” she said. “In a matter of days, I have learned to take chances and be the best person I can be.”

This movie celebrates musical theater in all its many forms, paying tribute to both the beloved classics that have come to define the medium, and today’s “revolutionary game-changers” that are bringing new life to the art form, he said.

Auditions for “Broadway Movie Musical” take place in San Jose Wednesday, May 18; in San Francisco Saturday, May 21; and in Morgan Hill Thursday May 26.

Local youth will recreate Broadway’s greatest moments on film in an original new movie beginning production this spring. Participants will record in a professional recording studio, work on a movie set with a film crew, then see themselves on the silver screen when “Broadway Movie Musical” premieres in selected Bay Area movie theaters in January 2017.

“We are looking for youth who love to sing and dance to feature in our movie musical,” Bisceglie said. “This project offers a variety of singing, dancing and speaking roles for a wide range of ages, talent and levels of experience.”

In 2012, Bisceglie and his team wrote, directed and produced the original youth movie musical “Gleeful” (a parody based on the popular TV series “Glee,”) that featured more than 100 local youth and played for 10 weeks at the CineLux Theatre in Morgan Hill. In 2013, Bisceglie created and produced “ROAR!” a stylized 1920s black and white movie musical that played to sellout crowds in the historic Castro Theater in San Francisco.

“We’ve seen John draw out amazing performances from his actors, and he’s always pushing the envelope with the creative process of filmmaking,” Mattie Scariot said of her experience working with Bisceglie. “If you want to get into film and television, this is a great opportunity to hone your skills and build your reel.”

The film “Broadway Movie Musical” will rehearse and be filmed in early August in San Francisco, Morgan Hill, Gilroy and San Jose.

Cast members will appear in multiple solo, duet, group and ensemble numbers. No experience is required, and all who audition will be accepted. The program consists of one rehearsal per week.
