Wine ‘n’ Paint
• Learn to paint step by step with Patty Curtis. For $35, you will receive an 11” by 14” gallery wrapped canvas, paints and brushes. Food and drinks are available for purchase. Living Above the Influence

Salute first responders
• Join Saint Louise Regional Hospital staff as they salute and thank the many first responders who battled the Loma Prieta Fire. There will be a barbecue from noon to 3 p.m. at the hospital, 9400 No Name Uno, Gilroy. There is a suggested donation of $5 to cover costs. Funds exceeding costs will be donated to St. Louise Regional Hospital Foundation.

Learn about Zentangle
• Come learn what Zentangle is all about from 6 to 8 p.m. at BookSmart, 1295 E. Dunne Ave., Ste. 120.

Fall and winter fruit tree care
• Learn what you can do in fall and winter to keep your deciduous fruit trees healthy from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Library, 660 W. Main Ave. Disease and insect pests will be discussed as well as control measures. Basics of winter pruning and tips on selecting new trees will also be covered. Presented by UCCE Master Gardener Joan Cloutier.

How to control winter weeds
• Winter is a time where weeds can get out of control. Learn what you can do to prevent weeds from taking over from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gilroy Library. 350 W. Sixth St. Various effective methods of weed control will be discussed. Presented by UCCE Master Gardener Joan Cloutier.

Steinbeck scholar visits
• Susan Shillinglaw, director of the National Steinbeck Center in Salinas and a professor of English at San Jose State University, is one of the leading experts on the life and work of John Steinbeck. Coffee with the Mayor
• Come to Grinds, Vines and Automobilia at 10 a.m. and have a cup of coffee on Mayor Steve Tate. He and councilmember Larry Carr will be there to answer any questions you may have, hear your concerns and suggestions, or just enjoy some coffee and conversation.

Oct. 29
Dance troupe visits MH
• Kara Starkweather, a 1996 graduate of LOHS and a performer with the Flynn Creek Circus, will bring her Mendocino Dance Project which presents: UNTOLD — Stories from the Street, to Morgan Hill at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Playhouse. Mendocino Dance Project is a contemporary dance company with an athletic, dynamic style. It is coming to Morgan Hill to premier their newest work along with other work created this past year. Tickets are $18 for general admission and $15 for those 12 and younger, and are available at brownpapertickets.com or at www.mendocinodanceproject.com.
