• The Live Oak Emerald Regime holds bingo games at the Britton Middle School Auditorium, 80 W. Central Ave., to support band programs. Walking program
• Join others in evening and Saturday morning walks. Meet at the Morgan Hill Shopping Center (Main and Hale avenues) for walks from 6 to 7 p.m. They also walk for 90 minutes Saturdays beginning at 9 a.m. The walks are at a moderate pace and include hills. • Come out and celebrate the launch of local author Tracee Gluhaich’s first book “No Fricken Weigh!” at 6:30 p.m. at BookSmart, 80 e. Second St. Gluhaich has worked closely with BookSmart owner Brad Jones in the past 15 months, and as a result he has lost more than 75 pounds.

Learn to make jewelry
• Children who attend this class from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Centennial Recreation Center, 171 W. Edmundson Ave., will learn to make jewelry, including bracelets, bookmarks and decorative pins. Healthy cooking with kids
• This class is designed to introduce children to healthy food choices and different cooking techniques. Children from 5 to 12 will learn to have fun in while creating a yummy lunch. The class takes place at the Centennial Recreation Center, 171 W. Edmundson Ave. The cost is $15 for residents, $10 for CRC members, $20 for non residents and $15 for non-resident CRC member. Polar bear plunge
• Dust off your swimsuit and start off the new year by taking a “plunge” down a slide into an unheated pool, then warm up in a heated pool. The plunge is for all ages and takes place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center, 16200 Condit Road. The cost is $15 for those taller than four feet, $7 for those shorter than four feet. Proceeds benefit the Youth Scholarship Fund. For information, call (408) 782-2134 or email [email protected].

Learn to grow stone fruit
• Learn to grow your own delicious tree ripened stone fruit from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Library, 660 W. Main Ave. Find out how to choose the best varieties for the climate, how to properly plant the tree and how to control insects and diseases. Basic pruning practices will also be discussed.

Sobrato Marching Band Goodwill Fundraiser!
• The Sobrato Swing Marching Band is having a Goodwill Fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Sobrato High School parking lot, 401 Burnett Ave. Bring your unwanted clothes, books, electronics, small appliances and exercise equipment in any condition. Help us fill the trailer to raise money for new instruments and uniforms. Furniture or large appliances are not accepted.

Meet teen author
• Local author Lynn Reed will be at BookSmart, 80 E. Second St., at 2 p.m. to discuss and sign the third epic of Shannon’s Adventure Stories. Titled “Adventures of the Open Door Secrets Revealed,” the book is about how a young archeology student’s adventure changes her life forever. As her class travels to dig sites, a series of mysterious events opens hidden secrets from ancient times to the present.

• Longtime Morgan Hill resident Loretta Wilson will promote her book “You Take the High Road,” at 6:30 p.m. at BookSmart, 80 E. Second St. Wilson will share her writing experience and sign copies.
