On my way home from work last week, I detoured through downtown and with the stop and go traffic between signals discovered I’ve never really paid much attention to how beautiful and unique our downtown architecture is.

Did you know some of our buildings are more than 100 years old? The original Morgan Hill Bank was built in 1906 and is still standing strong, currently home to hot spot Grinds Vines & Automobilia Cafe.

Morgan Hill is still a small-rural hometown at its roots, but can’t be denied its vibrant and modern hip flare, with a foodie presence that makes our downtown a place I’m thankful to call home.

With the Thanksgiving celebration this Thursday, what better time to reflect on how fortunate we are to have such a downtown? Of course we have the boutiques and restaurants that you’d expect, but in downtown Morgan Hill, shopping goes far beyond women’s apparel and kid’s clothing.

Still trying to figure out what to buy that special someone for Christmas? Problem solved. Stop by the Jewel Box and I can almost guarantee you’ll leave with at least one person checked off your shopping list.

Miranda Galloway, who manages the thriving jewelry store that opened in May 2009, is committed to making sure every customer is 100 percent satisfied with each piece of jewelry she sells.

The quality customer service extends throughout the entire store, so regardless of who is helping you, you’re in the hands of someone knowledgeable and passionate about fine jewelry. The Jewel Box has staff who take personal interest in helping you find exactly what you’re looking for.

Miranda and Michelle (who also really knows her stuff) listened to every detail my mother-in-law had on her birthday wish list. Turns out, as fate would have it, the perfect stone was already in their store. Lucky for me, the beautiful cushion cut tanzanite that she spotted in their display case fit perfectly in her setting and created the “wow” piece that we were hoping was possible. Thanks to the Jewel Box, I’m up for daughter-in-law of the year and my mother-in-law loves her new ring.

The Jewel Box can help you find the ideal engagement ring or anniversary gift, or twin rubies to create a custom pair of earrings.
You can check out their wide selection of diamonds, semiprecious and unique stones during their regular business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, or stop in next Thursday, Dec. 5 – during Ladies Shopping Night Out, from 5 to 9 p.m. – presented by the Morgan Hill Downtown Association. It’s a great excuse to call up the girls and get a head start on your holiday shopping.

Shops will be staying open late and participating stores will be enticing shoppers with special sales, raffle drawings and prizes.
Guys are welcome, but I’m pretty sure the free horns and winged headbands being passed out will be reserved for the first 150 ladies.
For a full list of participating stores, check out the posters downtown or visit www.morganhilldowntown.org.
