• The Live Oak Emerald Regime holds bingo at the Britton Middle School Auditorium, 80 W. Central Ave., to support after school band programs. New Year’s Eve party
• Ring in 2014 at the Morgan Hill Grange and help support Live Oak High School Ag Boosters, Live Oak High School Grad Night and the historical Morgan Hill Grange, from 7:30 p.m. to midnight. At the Grange, 40 E. Fourth St. The night includes dinner, dancing, a no host bar, casino games and more. Take a hike
• For the 5th annual New Years morning hike, hikers will return to a favorite, the Mummy Mountain Trail at Harvey Bear Ranch County Park. This four-mile loop (about a two-hour walk) is a pleasant walk for anyone of average fitness. It has spectacular views of the Santa Clara Valley and Coyote Reservoir. Meet at 9 a.m. New Year’s morning at the Medoza Ranch entrance to Harvey Bear Ranch. There is no day-use fee and dogs are welcome on a leash. (Directions: Exit Highway 101 at Leavesley Road and head east a couple miles to New Avenue. Turn left on New Avenue, then in a 1/2 mile turn right on Roop Road. The Mendoza Ranch entrance is about 4 miles up Roop Road just before the entrance to Coyote Reservoir.)

Marathon at Britton
• The Live Oak Emerald Regime will be holding two bingo sessions in the Britton Middle School Auditorium, 80 W. Central Ave. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., first session begins at 10 a.m. and the second session about 2 p.m. Catered lunch served to all at 1 p.m. For more information, email [email protected].

Girls club
• Meet new friends and participate in creative activities that help teach life skills and values, positive relationships and respect from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Centennial Recreation Center, 171 W. Bocce Ball Tournament

Math game night

Speech contest: ‘Women at the Top – Why Not?’

Jan. 18
Hands-on plant clinics
• Learn from the pros on how to prune your fruit trees at a free hands-on clinic “Fruit tree pruning and tree care,” from 10 a.m. to noon at the demonstration gardens at Saint Louise Hospital, 9400 No Name Uno, Gilroy. Experts will show and explain the best methods to shape trees that can produce larger fruit. They will also be discussing fruit tree pests, diseases and possible controls. The event will take place Jan. 25 if rains cancels.

Celebrate Morgan Hill
• The Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce presents the annual award dinner honoring six outstanding individuals and one local business. This year’s winners are Joshua Toch, Student of the Year; Irene Macias-Morriss, Educator of the Year; Phil Couchee, Volunteer of the Year, Heritage Bank, Business of the Year, John Tarvin, Man of the Year; and Cecelia Ponzini, Woman of the Year.
