Linda-at-Gavilan-(3)Students interested in attending Gavilan Community College this summer and in the fall can start the registration for classes now, said Jan Bernstein Chargin, director of public information.

Summer session starts June 20. The fall semester starts Aug. 29. Classes are offered in Gilroy, Hollister, Morgan Hill and online. Aviation Maintenance Technology classes start Aug. 10, and will be held in a new, larger facility at the San Martin airport.

To be eligible to attend Gavilan, students must be a high school graduate, or have passed the GED or California High School Proficiency Exam, or be 18 years of age or older, or be currently enrolled in high school as a special student by completing a high school contract form.

Students can apply and enroll online at www.gavilan.edu or in person at the Morgan Hill site.

The college was established in 1919 as the San Benito County Junior College. In 1963, a new community college district was drawn that included both San Benito County and southern Santa Clara County. The college moved to its present main campus in 1968. It’s now building a new campus in the Coyote Valley north of Morgan Hill.
