This year’s Frys.com Open takes place Oct. 7-12 at Cordevalle Golf Club in Morgan Hill.

The Frys.com Open leads the new, reconfigured 2013-2014 PGA Tour schedule as the tournament returns to CordeValle Golf Club Oct. 7-12.

For the first time since the Frys.com Open was first staged in 2006, the tournament will begin the PGA “year” and will issue FedEx points.

The event was a PGA Tour Fall Series tournament that was originally held at the Grayhawk Golf Club’s Raptor Course in Scottsdale, Arizona. It moved to CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin in 2010.

The tournament will move to the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa next year with options for similar dates in 2015 and 2016.
Tournament organizers have said the long term goal is to stage the event at John Frys Institute Golf Course in west Morgan Hill when facilities are completed.

One hundred and thirty-two of the top golfers in the world will be in the field, and this year’s could be the strongest ever.
It includes Trevor Immelman, the 2008 Masters Champion, Rocco Mediate, the 2010 Frys.com Open Champion, Michael Putnam, the leading money winner this year on the Web.com tour, and past Fry.com Open champions Mike Weir, Troy Matteson, George McNeill, Cameron Beckman, Bryce Molder and defending champion Jonas Blixt. Former UCLA star Patrick Cantlay, 21, is also expected to play, as are Aaron Baddely, Ricky Barnes, Angel Cabrera, Brendon de Jonge, Tommy Gainey, Billy Horschel, Davis Love III, Chez Reavie, Patrick Reed, Rory Sabbatini and Vijay Singh.

The Frys.com Open is an official PGA Tour tournament benefiting many local and national charities that are working to improve the lives of others.

Last year the tournament donated an estimated $1 million to local charities, including the American Institute of Mathematics, Youth on Course, Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, Special Olympics of Northern California, the American Cancer Society, The First Tee Silicon Valley, Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, CordeValle Youth Golf Foundation and Saint Louise Regional Hospital.

Title sponsor Fry’s Electronics is a privately owned retailer with 34 nationwide locations headquartered in San Jose.
