In 1978, Intero real estate agent Russ Warrick had worked in the corporate world for several years when he decided that he didn’t feel fulfilled with all the hard work he put into his business suit job. He saw that the world of real estate might be a better fit for him, so he took a chance and changed professions.

With the reboot of his career, Warrick faced the normal human fears of the unknown in going into a new venture. Despite the initial anxiety, he was drawn to the reward of seeing clients’ faces fill with appreciation for his helping them through the process of finding a new home.

During the last 34 years, he has never regretted his decision to get into the real estate profession. A resident of Morgan Hill for 25 years, Warrick and his wife Kimberly raised their two children Adam and Hope in our community.

Why do you enjoy helping people find a home for their families?

There’s something indescribable about how you feel as you hand your clients the keys to their new home and, with tear-filled eyes, they hug you and sincerely thank you for all the things you helped them overcome on the road to homeownership.
They thank you for not giving up on them and for comforting them with stories of other families that made it just like they were going to make it. They appreciate you like no one else. Next to marrying my wife and having our children and my faith, receiving this special kind of thanks is amazing.

What nonprofit organizations are you involved with?

For the past 10 years I have been involved with two nonprofits: Community Solutions and the Learning and Loving Center. And for the past couple of years, I’ve participated in the Discovery Counseling Center’s Bridge Program as well as the Morgan Hill Raiders Cheer Program for Special Kids.

Why do you enjoy helping these groups?

The first three are in many cases the only safety net between “kids at risk” and a life of drugs, abuse or gang involvement. The Morgan Hill Raiders Cheer Program for Special Kids is making a difference in the lives of children on a level that elevates to amazing experiences. All of these organizations are humbling in how selflessly they give when no one else does.

What advice would you give people in finding a real estate agent they will like to work with?

Don’t ever settle for a real estate agent that you’re not 100 percent happy with. Don’t just accept the first person you meet if you don’t believe they’re putting your interests before their own. You can and should, unless the agent came highly recommended by friends or family members, request a list with contact information of references from recent clients.

What simple advice would you give people considering purchasing a new home during this market?

Just like selecting an agent, don’t settle for just any home. Our market is transitioning from a seller’s market to a buyer’s market. The change isn’t over night but trends and signs indicate FHA (Federal Housing Administration) and VA (Veteran Affairs) financing are becoming more viable than ever in the last six years. Be patient and good things will happen for you.

How would you describe your style of serving your customers?

I serve my clients by asking strategic questions about many different aspects of their lives: the home they want and which features cannot be compromised. Then, I break out my greatest tool, the key to all my years of success with hundreds of clients … Listening combined with lots and lots of note taking until I know my clients like they know themselves. Finally, I employ a specific system for buyers and another for sellers that has evolved over 34 years: First you care deeply, then you listen, you counsel and you employ a system that yields the best possible results for your client.
