Farmers-Market-6-webKarla Rodriguez of La Chiquita Farm in Watsonville sells fresh strawberries at the opening day of the Downtown Morgan Hill Farmers Market April 17. The market returned to the parking lot at Monterey Road and Third Street after taking a winter hiatus.

“I would say we were much better received coming back in the spring as opposed to our attempt in October,” said Jerry Lami, executive director of West Coast Farmers. “The weather is nice and there’s more people out and about. Morgan Hill is a beautiful town and there’s a lot of people who have a lot of interest in the market. We want to really get in touch with the community.

There are now 15 vendors at the market with an expected five more that will join soon, he said.

Vendors include Avila Farm providing fresh produce, Bigham Eggs for free range eggs, Favorite Kettle Korn, and the Honey Ladies for locally produced honey. Fruit include fresh cherries, peaches, apricots and melons. Other products at the market that local shoppers will find include fresh spring asparagus, humus, chocolate dips, and olive oil.

When the Thursday Night Music Series returns to Third Street this summer, the market will provide a fun place to shop while listening to performers, Lami said.
