When Ralph and Christine Chellino built their home in Holiday Estates in 1974, Morgan Hill had a population of 6,500. The couple recall it was not unusual to see people riding horses down Monterey Road at that time.

The couple raised two children, Teressa and Mike, in the small town. They are now the proud grandparents of 9-year-old Scotty (who loves baseball and karate) and 7-year-old Ella (who loves dancing) and both children attend Nordstrom Elementary School.

For 34 years, the Chellinos have helped families move into homes as the community of Morgan Hill grew. Ralph shared with Morgan Hill Life his love for helping people find their dream residences through Intero Real Estate Services.

What got you started in the real estate business?

My neighbor was Jerry Hatcher, owner of Prospectors Realty He and his wife Jo believed I had what it takes to be a good Realtor — so I just couldn’t let them down.
Why do you enjoy helping people find a home for their families?

I would say with all sincerity that it’s not the money but the friends you make along the way that makes this job satisfying. Christine and I have met many life-long friends whom we love and enjoy.

What nonprofit organizations are you involved with?

We are or have been associated with the National Association of Realtors, the California Teachers Association, the Oakgrove Educators Association, the Holiday Estates Maintenance Association, AARP, Ducks Unlimited, Morgan Hill Pony Baseball, Morgan Hill Parks and Recreation, Santa Clara County Association of Realtors, South County Association of Realtors, San Benito Association of Realtors, National Educators Association, the Italian Catholic Federation and BBCO International.

Why are you involved with these groups?

Each of these organization were part of my life through the years and it only made sense to get involved. “Lead, follow, or get out of the way.” I prefer to lead.

What advice would you give people in finding a real estate agent they will like to work with?

Look for an experienced Realtor with a good, solid reputation for service and industry knowledge. There are no substitutes for service, reputation, and expertise. It only helps if you like people, too.

The real estate market is hot right now. What advice would you give people in purchasing a home at this time?

Sellers who have found themselves above water once again with equity may want to rethink selling their homes. The current market needs your listing. This equates, in many circumstances, to multiple offers bringing to you a greater bottom line. “Short selling” can often be a needed business solution. Treat it as just that, business.

Buyers, please don’t wait too long because the market has changed abruptly again, perhaps this time not necessarily in your favor. Be proactive and decisive. Waiting will only cost you that home or that interest rate. Prices are currently on the up swing.

You have a reputation for caring about your clients. How would you describe your style of serving them?

Friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, comforting, and successful. I want to be your “Realtor for life.”
