Roger Malech, Intero real estate agent

Truly appropriate for his profession as an Intero real estate agent for Morgan Hill, Roger Malech loves the board game Monopoly. At his home, he holds an annual Monopoly tournament night where he invites friends and family to compete for fun and prizes as they purchase and sell property.

Malech has been a local real estate agent for 31 years. It runs in the family as his father was a broker and developer. He and his wife Cera raised their four daughters Elizabeth (married to Jensen Near), Erin (married to Kees Van der Haut), Elise and Emily in the Morgan Hill community.

Why do you enjoy helping people find a home for their families?

There are few greater rewards in life than being involved in something that fulfills the needs of people that real estate does.
Not only are we talking about the basic need of shelter, we are involved in financial concerns, emotional needs, pride of ownership, and the overall sense of well-being that being a homeowner provides.

There is no other career that touches these issues like real estate. I consider it to be an incredible privilege when I am involved helping others in these areas. It is very fulfilling.

You are involved with Rotary Club of Morgan Hill as well as the Discovery Counseling Center. Why do you enjoy participating in these organizations?

In both these organizations I satisfy my need to give back. Rotary is very philanthropic in touching the lives of others who have physical needs. Discovery Counseling helps people with emotional and mental health needs.
My life has become about giving to others whether it be through real estate, Rotary, Discovery Counseling, or through my church.
What simple advice would you give people in finding a real estate agent they will like to work with?
First and foremost, find someone you trust and who has a high standard of care. Secondly, find someone who you like and feel comfortable with. If either of these are not present, find another agent. Honesty and reliability are core assets an agent should possess in order to do the best job possible for their clients.

The Morgan Hill real estate market is more dynamic than it has been for several years. What advice would you give people in purchasing a new home during this market?

Be patient, wait for the right property at the right price, then make a strong move with a strong agent. Do not psychologically “move-in” until the sale is consummated. This will keep you from making decisions based on emotional factors. There is always another property, but it may not feel like it at the time.

How would you describe your style of serving your customers?

I am not a salesperson. I believe the property will sell itself. I help facilitate the transaction so that it is as smooth as possible and I’ll do my best to protect my clients from the pitfalls which are potential in the transaction. My job is done when my clients have either purchased or sold a property, have been protected, and have less angst as a result of my performance. My motto is “Service that will move you.”
