As a “baby” Lion, (I joined the Morgan Hill Lions Club a little over a year ago) I can only say that the last year was filled with rewarding experiences that I would have missed if I had not become involved in this 75-year-old Morgan Hill organization.

Lions Club events are always an adventure. One example was hosting a group of children and their families for a day on the lake and providing them with complete tackle (that’s fishing talk for rods, reels, line, and sinkers). The look on the children’s faces when they realized that the equipment belonged to them and they could actually “take it home!” was priceless.

Honestly, I was a little apprehensive when asked to participate as a judge for the annual scholarship programs for the local high school seniors. The students were so composed and bright, renewing my opinion that our next generation of leaders for our community and country will be in capable hands. Many of the students mentioned that they were going to be the first in their families to pursue their dreams of attending college.

Another event that is a favorite of mine is the semi-annual pancake breakfast. With help from the Boys Scouts, Cub Scouts and Future Business Leader of America, we serve close to 200 breakfast guests. The best part is watching young people, senior citizens and everyone in between meeting, eating, and enjoying conversations while eager little Cub Scouts rush to prepare the place settings for new guests to sit and join the fun.

These three local community examples are small reasons why I love the Morgan Hill Lions Club.  Knowing that Lions Clubs International is providing eye care and glasses to those in need is the reason I joined the Morgan Hill Lions Club. The rest has been a bonus.
