Photographs to adorn new council chambers

As a requirement for graduation, each class that goes through the Leadership Morgan Hill program must complete a project that benefits our local community. This year’s class is now working on a project it calls “The Art of Leadership” which will install a permanent photographic artwork display to decorate Morgan Hill’s newly remodeled City Council Chambers.
The art pieces will provide images of Morgan Hill for the enjoyment and education of the Morgan Hill community, said Swanee Edwards, a local resident who is one of 19 members of the 2013 Leadership Morgan Hill class. Large photographs will be displayed on the 60-foot rear wall of the chamber
“We thought that the idea of mounting photographs of interesting areas and activities in Morgan Hill would be a wonderful use of that wall,” Edwards said. “As a Leadership Morgan Hill class with our project providing artwork for the City Council Chambers, we can show off the ‘Art of Leadership.’”
The class recently put out a call to local photographers with ties to the Morgan Hill community to submit examples of their photographs. The final photographs selected will reflect the history and lifestyle of Morgan Hill. Photographs will be considered a donation to the community of Morgan Hill.
The Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2013 is raising money for the project with a series of activities. It is hosting a photo booth at the Chamber of Commerce’s Friday Night Music Series in which people donate money for a selection of three whimsical photos of themselves. Other fundraising endeavors include a wine class at Bubbles in downtown Morgan Hill, an ice cream social event, and a request letter to potential sponsors including businesses and individuals who support this artistic endeavor.
This year’s class members are: Nicole Bennett, Chris Bosso, Tracy Carpena, Mary Dokter, Swanee Edwards, Chris Foster, Barbara Garcia, Liza Garibaldi, Sam Kabert, Lori McIntosh, John Norgard, Eileen Obata, Doris Patterson, Angela Rivera, Mary Seehafer, Tony Stafford, Al Tervalon, Carson Thomas, and Matthew Wendt.
