Photo by Marty Cheek The annual Friday Night Music Series began with a bang June 13 as the Jesse Charles Band rocked the newly named Morgan Hill Downtown Amphitheater. Hundreds enjoyed the music, great weather, wine and beer sold by the Chamber of Commerce, and hot dogs sold by the Kiwanis Club. The series continues through Aug. 29. There is no concert July 4. The Friday Night Music Series came to an end with a fantastic show by The Houserockers. I had the distinct pleasure of opening the 12th and final show of the season with my pal Lambert Malloy and his wonderful granddaughter, Brooke Gaines, who came all the way from Folsom just to play a few songs for the crowd.

A big thanks to all the volunteers who worked week in, week out pouring beer and wine, removing trash, and setting up and tearing down tables and hospitality tents. A nod to the entire staff and board of directors at the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce, including Chairman Rich Firato, for organizing the event and hiring all the headlining bands, and Vice Chair Robert Airoldi for handling all the set up and tear down and overseeing the beverage tent. Janis McDonald of the chamber did a great job handling the volunteers. A big thanks to the TeenForce workers who worked five hours a night helping set up and tear down the event. Music In Motion, Lana’s Dance Studio and Music Is Language provided all the children’s opening acts. Jon Mockabee proved his announcing ability by doing a stellar job as emcee.

D&V Sound provided the sound system each week, Leadership Class of 2015 provided the professional lighting system as its class project, and Mike DiRubio ran the lights.

Kudos to the Kiwanis Club, a dedicated group of volunteers who sold hot dogs, chips, sodas and water to raise money for student scholarships. And a big thank you to the various Chamber members who set up tables to show off their businesses. Finally, a great big thank you to all the sponsors, without whom the entire free and family-friendly event would not be possible.

The bands this year wowed the crowd week after week as we saw the cream of the crop of Bay Area talent come to Morgan Hill. An event like this really helps boost the economy in downtown and brings the entire community together.

This season we saw the largest audience attendance in the history of the Friday Night Music Series. I’ve been assured next year the Chamber will strive to make the event even bigger and better. Thank you to everyone for pitching in and being a part of the most successful Friday Music Series ever!
