This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday, which is a bonus for many of the restaurants, wineries, and bars in and around town. It also makes for a relaxing date night with your special someone.

I thought it would be nice to give Morgan Hill Life readers the heads-up on a few South Valley places that will be adding live music to this Feb. 14 date night.

The Joe Sharino Band is playing Guglielmo Winery from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $32.50 and can be purchased at www.brownbagtickets.com. Food and drinks cannot be brought in but there will be wine, specialty coffees and chocolate desserts to purchase. There will also be raffles during intermission for some fun Valentine’s gifts. Make sure you get your tickets early as this event will likely sell out.

Morgan Hill’s 88 Keys Cafe will offer a four-course dinner with three seatings at 5 to 7 p.m., 7 to 9 p.m. and 9 to 11 p.m. with a prix fixe menu and many choices including entrees ranging from prime rib to filet mignon stuffed with crab, or stuffed salmon with bay shrimp and a specially prepared Valentine’s dessert too. The Poppy Jasper Trio with Ingrid will be playing at all three seatings. It’s a great deal at $55 per person … Call (408) 778-3185 for reservations.

Downtown’s GVA Cafe will host a Valentine’s party with local favorite Rich Bermea and his band pumping out danceable rock, funk, and blues. A $15 cover includes GVA’s foodie-approved edibles. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the music begins at 8 p.m.

In downtown Gilroy, Old City Hall will feature a rockin’ Valentine’s Dinner-Dance Party with The James Junior Band. It’s $75 per couple and includes dinner with your choice of filet mignon, halibut or stuffed chicken plus soup, salad, dessert and a glass of wine followed by the dance from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. For reservations call (408) 842-3454.

On another note, there are many other places with romantic Valentine’s dinner specials and fine local wines including La Nina Perdida, Rosy’s at the Beach, Bubbles Wine Bar, Ladera Grill, Betto’s Bistro, Odeum, Mama Mia’s Ristorante Italiano, and many of the wineries in our South Valley region. For those who want to stay home, Pearl River Chinese Restaurant is offering free delivery or 20 percent off any take-out order for the entire weekend.
