Morgan Hill has a vibrant and ever-growing music scene. In this column, you will find interviews and stories from and about the people that make the music, the places that have the music and those that bring the music to our community.

Major music events this year have included the Thursday Night Street Dance, the Friday Night Music Series, the Taste of Morgan Hill and the world famous Mushroom Mardi Gras.

Our inaugural Kihncert brought thousands of music fans to our town, and featured many local and national bands, including headliner Bret Michaels. Greg Kihn loves Morgan Hill so much he came back just a few days later for a book signing and a very special surprise acoustic musical performance at BookSmart Oct. 15.

You can go out and find live music in many places like GVA Café throughout the week and weekend, the Trail Dust BBQ every Friday serves up acoustic blues, roots, folk and Americana music. Soon the new 88 Keys Café (the brainchild of Mark & Susan Gaetano from the former Upstairs Jazz Café) will feature jazz, blues, full bar, and a variety of musical styles and good eats.

Champs is a wonderful place for ongoing live bands including rock and reggae on various nights of the week. There are also live bands at StriXe inside the Morgan Hill Bowl and certainly the surrounding wineries.

Next time we will take a look at a family that has been making and supplying music together here in Morgan Hill for the last 16 years. If you have any ideas or thoughts about this column, I encourage you to contact us so we can pass it on to our readers.
