Saint-Louise-1-webThe emergency department of Saint Louise Regional Hospital is undergoing a $750,000 renovation. The ED Revitalization Project began July 5 and will continue throughout the summer in phases to minimize the impact on patients.

“The project will include creation of a new triage area, allowing a registered nurse to be the first person the patient encounters when they visit the emergency department,” said Dr. Pamela Stuart, medical director of the emergency department. “All patients will continue to be triaged by a registered nurse. We are also remodeling the waiting area, creating a more comfortable environment for our patients.”

Gilroy Chamber of Commerce Mark Turner was among those on hand at a July 12 reception to hear remarks from Stuart, hospital Chief Executive Officer Robert Minkin, Robert Schambach, RN, director of the Emergency Department, and George Chiala, chair of the Saint Louise Regional Hospital Foundation board of trustees.

Schambach shared a hand-written note sent to his staff by a community member who had an early morning stroke and was rushed to Saint Louise. The grateful patient wrote, “In your soul, each of you know, that you choose to do this work to help people (and sometimes that is difficult to do). Thank you for being there when my family cried out for help. Every one of you is a part of that netting that saved me in those early morning hours. “

The renovation project is championed by the Saint Louise Regional Hospital Foundation trustees.

“This significant improvement project would not have been possible without support from donors, community members, and the trustees of our foundation,” Minkin said. “This is one of the first important projects happening at Saint Louise as we recommit to a future of continued service to our community as part of the new Verity Health System.”
