Last month, the Live Oak High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America had the opportunity to tour the Google Campus in Mountain View. It was the perfect chance for a group of students who enjoy building strong character traits and moral values, and want to learn what it takes to be successful in the business world to explore such a prestigious Silicon Valley search engine company filled with notable business leaders.

Fifteen FBLA club members including myself explored the campus June 5. To begin our tour we were escorted into one of Google’s employee dining halls where we had the chance to fill our plates with food, choosing from multiple different dining selections that represented almost every cultural palate. This first stop in our tour was not only a delicious way to commence a fun-filled day, but also represented how culturally diverse the Google company is. It also shined light on the benefits that workers could receive if they are accepted into a prosperous company.

Our next stop took us inside an employee recreational center, which included multiple gaming stations and a functional, multi-story slide. Here, we paused for a discussion that taught us the process to become a Google employee. Our group benefited by gaining useful interview and application tips that can help us not only secure a career at Google, but for any job or position we wish to fulfill, including how to make ourselves stand out for college entrance forms.

After taking note of all the information that our Google tour guides shared with us, we were guided through more buildings featuring astonishing architecture that were visually aesthetic.

Overall, this experience taught us the importance of developing professional business skills and benefits of working at such affluent companies. I am confident that our club members will practice all they learned and share this information with other Live Oak students, making not only our club, but our entire school diligent and successful future leaders.
