Morgan Hill’s senior citizens have the opportunity to get out and enjoy fun day-trips through Kanen Tour, including an upcoming trip March 7 to The Exploratorium “learning laboratory” in San Francisco.

“It’s fun to get out of Morgan Hill and explore other areas of California,” said Denise Melroy, program coordinator for the Centennial Recreation Senior Center. “Most often, our travelers will pick several friends to go with, so they have fun socializing with their friends.  Many times, new friends are made on the trips.”

Visitors to The Exploratorium will see its new location on Pier 15. The seniors will be able to visit 150 new exhibits and many classic ones and discover the fascinating world of science.

After the visit, the group will go to nearby Fisherman’s Wharf for a hosted lunch at the Fog Harbor Fish House restaurant with a choice of Alaskan cod fish and chips, grilled chicken Caesar salad, or cheeseburger and fries, with coffee and dessert included.

“The Exploratorium is a great place to delve into one’s imaginative desire to explore and tinker,” Melroy said. “When you take one of these tours, the bus will deliver you to the door of The Exploratorium and then to a hosted lunch on Fisherman’s Wharf. So, moderate walking is expected, but more importantly, with the bus, there are no parking fees. Also, travelers are given a road tour of San Francisco without having to drive through the traffic and narrow streets.

The tour will leave the Centennial Recreation Senior Center at 8:30 am and return at 4 p.m. The cost is $98 per person. Kanen Tours provides the transportation up to San Francisco, the entrance fee into the Exploratorium, the lunch and gratuity at the restaurant, and the gratuity for the coach driver.

The Senior Center’s spring trip is to Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay, Melroy said. The cost is $104 per person.

“This trip will depart from the Senior Center on May 7 at 8 a.m. by coach and will return by 6 p.m.,” she said. “Then, we will travel aboard the ferry to Alcatraz for a hosted deli-style lunch and self-guided audio tour. After exploring Alcatraz, we will take in the new San Francisco History Museum.”
