Specialized lunch-time cyclists enjoy the Morgan Hill region’s backroads

Specialized Bicycle Components is working with the Morgan Hill Police Department to create safer road situations for both cyclists and motorists with an enhanced safety course for participants in the daily lunch-time bicycle tour.

The local company apologizes for the “inconveniences caused by the large number of cyclists that ride each day from our company and the lack of riding etiquette while out on the roads of Morgan Hill,” said Katie Sue Gruener, global public relations manager at Specialized, in a letter to the community.

Effective immediately, the route of lunch ride will no longer go through the Paradise Valley neighborhood, she said. The firm is also working directly with Specialized employees to educate and enforce the California State Vehicle Code regulations.

To emphasize riding safely and respecting community, Specialized developed the How We Roll guiding principles to respect traffic laws and be responsible and intelligent while cycling.

“Specialized takes pride in being a part of the Morgan Hill community for more than 35 years,” Gruener said “Our ultimate goal is to promote health and fitness through the sport of cycling and hope to encourage more people to join. Going forward we are committed to following the rules of the road and being better at sharing with other people out and about.”

The public can join a community ride hosted the first Monday of each month starting at 12:15 p.m. at the Community and Cultural Center.
