Since 1985, many Morgan Hill and South Valley children have performed in the summer plays produced on the Gavilan Community College STAR program. Due to budget cuts, the program recently was cut from Gavilan but continues as a nonprofit performing at Brownell Middle School in Gilroy.

To help raise money to keep the program going, organizers will hold a STAR-B-QUE at the Senera Farm & Gardens in Morgan Hill from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday Aug. 23. Proceeds will benefit the STAR Arts Education for youth.

“STAR creates a safe place for youth to express themselves creatively, to boost their confidence, self-esteem and poise,” said Barbara Graham, the program’s administrative coordinator.

The program recently ended its show “Guys & Dolls Jr.,” a musical based on the more adult version.

Pre-sale tickets for the STAR-B-QUE are $25 for adults and $10 for children younger than 12. After Aug. 15, tickets sell for $30 for adults and $12 for children. For information, call (669) 888-4148 or visit the STAR website at www.starartseducation.wix.com/star
