The year 2014  is coming to a close and you can end the year with music. If you’re not staying home or going to a house party, there are a number of events on New Year’s Eve this year that you should know about.

Reservations are usually recommended. Here’s a brief line up of some of the “happenings” in and around Morgan Hill:

88 KEYS CAFE will be tearing it up with live jazz music with the Poppy Jasper Jazz Trio and special guest vocalist Ingrid for two shows (two dinner seatings) 4:30 to 8 p.m. & 8:30 p.m. to midnight. The special four-course menu is just $55 per person, not including tax, gratuity or drinks, but does include party favors and a Champagne toast.

LADERA GRILL is presenting a very special dinner (like no other in the Ladera tradition) with dancing to the mix of DJ Robert Casale, party favors, midnight toast, balloon drop, dessert and cordials and various drink specials. All that for $125 per person. Seating is limited and reservations are a must as they always sell out.

THE HILL BAR & GRILL in downtown Morgan Hill is throwing a “Free Party” with DJ Darren from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Party favors, drink specials, and a midnight toast all included and all at no charge.

GVA CAFE on Second Street and Monterey Road is offering a New Year’s Eve Party from 8 p.m. until after midnight with live music featuring Mojo Workin’ Blues Band, champagne toast, midnight breakfast, and party favors all for a modest price of $15.

Ron Howard performs at Bubbles New Year's Eve.

BUBBLES WINE BAR in downtown Morgan Hill is featuring a gala New Year’s Eve Party from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. with music by Ron Howard and includes a wide variety of small plates to munch on and a bottle of wine per couple plus a bubbly toast at midnight. The ticket is $95 per person, plus tax and gratuity.

OLD CITY HALL in downtown Gilroy is inviting you to their New Year’s Eve party with Rockin’ Richard from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The party includes party favors, a midnight toast, and a late night buffet all for $15 per person.

GILROY LODGE ON THE HILL is stepping it up with their New Year’s Gatsby Gala, a step back into the 1920s with dancing to live music from the band No Respect. Cocktails at 6 p.m., a grand buffet dinner at 8 p.m. and a midnight champagne toast. Reservations are required and admission is open to Elks members for $55 and $60 for guests.

THE MILIAS at the corner of Sixth Street and Monterey Street in downtown Gilroy presents a special package of dinner and dancing to the guitar and DJ music of Mike Malinao. The evening includes party favors and a champagne toast at midnight, all inclusive for $75 per person. Reservations can be made at (408) 337-5100.

THE CITY OF MONTEREY will be presenting its “First Night Monterey,” a premier New Year’s Eve celebration of the arts. A family-friendly event with more than 30 venues from Custom House Plaza to Monterey State Historic Park.

POOR HOUSE BISTRO, SAN JOSE is hosting a musical extravaganza with a variety of live music from 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. offering three live musical acts, a rather large Louisiana-style buffet, including dessert and Champagne at midnight. The music includes Pete Contino from 6 to 7 p.m., Ron Thompson & the Resistors with Jimmy Pugh from 7 to 9:30 p.m., and then Lara Price & Velvet Plum Band from 9:30 p.m. to closing. All this for $50 per person, but reservations are a must. Call (408)-292-5837 or email [email protected] to reserve your seat.

On another note, you can buy some of the freshest, cleaned, cracked, Dungeness crab from Rosy’s at the Beach, sit in the comfort of your own home, and watch the ball drop … and be in bed by the time the clock strikes twelve. Whatever you decide to do, have a safe and sane New Year’s Eve and a wonderful holiday season.
