I love the spirit of volunteering in Morgan Hill that’s shared by all the members of the Morgan Hill Kiwanis. I’m approaching 30 years as a member of this fine service organization, and I’m proud of what we accomplish in a spirit of camaraderie.
The Morgan Hill Kiwanis sponsor the annual Holiday of Lights Parade that brings such delight to children of all ages at the start of the Christmas season.

We hang flags downtown highlighting various local events. We raise dollars in fundraising efforts to provide scholarships to local high school students and various nonprofit groups. We provide food for the needy at Thanksgiving and help with the Annual Food Drive at P.A. Walsh Elementary School. In May, we provide a barbecue for the volunteers that participate in the Morgan Hill Beautification Day.

For the senior citizens of our community we hold a breakfast and later in the year a dinner. We provide all the volunteers for a spaghetti feed fundraiser for Dreampower, a nonprofit organization that helps children and veterans with horses.

The Morgan Hill Kiwanis meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the community room at BookSmart (80 East Second St., downtown Morgan Hill). If you want to have fun volunteering your time and energy to make Morgan Hill an even better place, I encourage you to visit us at our next meeting.

In each issue we’ll feature a short column from a member of the community on a specific reason you love Morgan Hill. Please keep submission to 300 words or fewer and send to [email protected].
