If democracy is going to survive, we Americans must find a way to heal our nation of the increasing polarization that threatens our republic. The history of the 1960s suggests a solution. During that time of disorder and discord in the United States, Americans joined together in a daring endeavor set forth by President John F. Kennedy, to send men to the Moon and bring them back safely to the Earth by the end of that decade. Our nation needs leaders today who can inspire us to join together in a great endeavor — one that will surpass even the Apollo program.

Consider how humanity has a paradigm shift during the first journey to the Moon, a year and a half prior to the first landing. The three-man crew of Apollo 8 entered lunar orbit on Christmas Eve in 1968. As their spacecraft drifted over the desolate lunarscape, the astronauts took a photo of the Earth from their unique viewpoint. That photo is called “Earthrise.”  The crew read to the people of our planet words from the book of Genesis describing the beauty of God’s creation. For the first time in human history, we saw our planet beyond borders. We saw Earth as our fragile and lovely home world. That Christmas Eve moonshot journey revealed a longing in the human spirit to protect and preserve our planet as a gift to future generations. The environmental movement was shortly after launched across our nation, bringing together people of all political ideologies on the first Earth Day in 1970.

Here in the year 2020, what if we Americans can achieve an even greater goal than what was accomplished with the Apollo program. It would be a goal that will bring an end to our polarization as a people by uniting us as we were once united by the excitement of a journey to the Moon. We can accomplish this by giving the greatest Christmas gift ever given in all of history: true global peace to all humanity by Christmas Eve in the year 2040. By that day, if we join now in this endeavor, we can free the world forever from the horrors of wars. Let us Americans join together to unite all people on our planet to strive for the most noble of goals — the successful pursuit of world peace — in the next 20 years. Life Media Group proposes a path to peace through a movement called “Vision-2020” where everyone is called to be a hero for humanity.
