A long-time Bay Area sports fan, Army Veteran and proud Morgan Hill Barber Shop owner for 24 years, Joe Acosta passed away May 4.

Joe truly valued being a part of the Morgan Hill community and his life as a barber to many generations.

He cut hair for many locals for nearly 25 years at his First Street shop that is filled with sports memorabilia and police badges from dozens of agencies.

He had a loyal following of customers who in addition to getting their hair cut, enjoyed talking sports. Joe was an avid Bay Area sports fan, who loved talking about the 49ers, Giants, Warriors and Sharks.

In 2014, he installed a San Francisco Giants-themed chair in his downtown shop. The chair, dating back to the 1920s, was reupholstered by a customer who completed the job while Acosta was on vacation with his wife and two daughters. The chair is a great addition to all the other sports memorabilia adorning his shop’s walls.

Joe was a loving family man and leaves behind his wife Karen; daughters Wendy, Katelyn and Alyssa; granddaughter Maggie; as well as close siblings and extended family.

Donations can be made to Second Harvest Food Bank in Joe’s memory. Date of service to be announced.
