TheaterFun owner Carol Romo told us her home-schooling group will be performing the play “The Jungle Book” Tuesday May 17, with free shows at 4 p.m and 7 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Playhouse. The family friendly musical based on Rudyard Kipling’s classic is perfect for youngsters interested in the performing arts.Morgan Hill Life asked Romo about the show and her unique way of instructing students in theater arts.
What is TheaterFun and why did you decide to do “The Jungle Book”?
Theaterfun is a theater company that puts on performances in Campbell, Morgan Hill and Gilroy. The ages of the children are 6 to 17, though I have an autistic boy who is 22 and is progressing fabulously!
I just picked “Jungle Book.” I didn’t know about the Disney version that has just been released. It’s very different because the whole cast is on the stage pretty much the whole time. It’s also very different from all the other shows I have done!
This is a great program for kids to develop their confidence and other skills. What do children get out of participating?
They gain confidence, find out that they like to dance and sing and all have a sense of humor. They learn about the importance of “community” as they have to work together towards a common goal and it allows them to use their creativity.
The TheaterFun performances are free to attend. Why might families want to take their children to the two “Jungle Book” shows and introduce them (at no cost) to the magic of theater?
The show is a great way for a family to spend some quality time together …they will all be transported in to the magical land of the imagination.
