Moving to Morgan Hill in 1975 seemed the logical thing to do when Christine and I married that year. We sought a rural community free of crime and congestion, a place to start our anticipated family. Our children Teressa and Michael were born in 1977 and 1979.
Bay Area census confirms what we felt of our decision back in 1975. Most of Morgan Hill was family oriented and 85 percent of Morgan Hill’s population consisted of families with children under 18 years of age. The population, by the way, was 6,485 folks.
By 1990 the population soared to nearly 24,000 people, but the demographics remained consistent. Nearly half (44 percent) of the population was made up of families with children under 18 years of age.The most recent 2010 census cites our population blooming to nearly 35,000 yet holding true to our family-oriented theme, still 44 percent of our families contain children under the age of 18.
No wonder our fine community boasts one of the Bay Area’s most diverse and utilized recreational programs.
No matter what interests you and your children pursue, Morgan Hill has a recreation program and facility to accommodate them.
Here are some just to name a few — Kempo Karate, swim lessons at the Aquatic Center, “Cool Kids” summer camps, tennis anyone?, Just for Kicks Soccer, skateboard and BMX lessons, Just for Hoops Basketball, and let’s not forget programs for adults and seniors, too. For details and registration for the myriad of programs available, get online and access the Morgan Hill Recreation Activity Guide at www.morgan-hill.ca.gov.
Pony and Spirit Baseball/Softball programs as well as the Morgan Hill Raiders program are as instructional as they are fun for thousands of Morgan Hill’s children — catch them online as well at mhpb.clubsetup.com, spiritofmorganhill.com, morganhillraiders.com.
Enjoy family fun playing in Morgan Hill.
