Music is alive the weekend of Sept. 27 and 28 thanks to the Chamber of Commerce’s Taste of Morgan Hill. Chamber Chairman Rich Firato has secured a wide range of top musical acts for this one. This year the Taste has added an all new acoustic stage on First Street with all electric bands on the Second Street Stage and the Third Street main stage. The Third Street stage will be set back farther than it has been in previous years to accommodate the crowds for the three-band twilight concert Saturday evening.
The acoustic stage will open at 10 a.m. with Larry Gamble, then David Johnson at 11:45 a.m. and Ray Tarantino at 1:45 p.m. The final act of the day will feature original singer-songwriter Aprylle Gilbert. Included in her set will be Mark Fenny (that’s me) as a harmonica accompanist on Aprylle’s all original music sets.
The Sunday line-up opens at 10 a.m. with Jeff Smith, followed at 11:45 a.m. with David Johnson, Ted Sanchez at 1:45 p.m. and closing the stage will be myself and some of his very musical friends sitting in from 3:45 to 6 p.m.
The Second Street stage will open Saturday at 11:45 a.m. with Reverend Love Jones followed by The Usuals at 1:30 p.m. and local favorites The Usual Suspects at 3:15 p.m. The final band of the day will be RPM at 5 p.m.
On Sunday the stage begins at 12:30 p.m. with Charged Particles then at 2:30 p.m. it’s country rockers The Wild West Show. On Sunday the final band is J. J. Hawg from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
The mains stage on Third Street kicks off Saturday with the polished sounds of The California Blues Machine at noon. They will be followed by a band that is no newcomer to the Morgan Hill music scene: eclectic classic rockers Chubby’s Allstars. Following their set will be the Twilight Concert Series at 4 p.m. with Aja Vu (Steely Dan/Chicago cover band), at 6 p.m. we’re treated to The Shane Dwight Band, and then at 8 p.m. it’s Entourage. A very strong line-up and a very full day of great music.
The Third Street stage Sunday will begin at noon with Classic Rock ‘n’ Rollers The Hot Rods Band followed at 2 p.m. by Proxima Parada and closing the festival at 4 p.m. will be The Newcastle Brothers.
Remember to bring along plenty of sunscreen and a jacket if you plan to visit the Third Street stage for the Saturday twilight concert series which runs from 4 to 10 p.m. This entire weekend event is sure to be an aural treat to suit everyone’s ears and musical tastes.
