Just about everyone knows someone who has suffered from some form of cancer. Well, here’s your chance to fight back. Teams are forming now for this year’s Relay for Life. Come out and join the community May 16 and 17 to celebrate those who have beaten cancer, remember those who have not and fight back to end this disease. There will be music, food and activities for 24 hours, and participants can camp out, take turns walking and honor loved ones. Cancer survivors are always free to register. The annual South Valley Wine Auction, which helps fund athletic programs in the Morgan Hill Unified School District, netted $23,000 this year. Congratulations to everyone who helped organize and put on the event. This premier food and wine event in the South Valley which raises money to supplement sports programs at Live Oak and Sobrato high schools and Martin Murphy and Britton middle schools.

Morgan Hill residents Murv and Judy Little traveled to our community’s Sister City Mizuho, Japan on April 2, taking with them a special video greeting done by Danielle Dunio’s first-grade class at P.A. Walsh STEAM Academy. Morgan Hill Life Publisher Marty Cheek video-recorded the kids singing the song “Mary Had a Little Lamb” in both English and Japanese. The students also learned greetings and a formal Japanese bow which they did on the video. They also prepared drawings for the Japanese dignitaries that showcase the Sister City relationship between Morgan Hill and Mizuho.
P.A. Walsh Principal Teresa Sermersheim said this inspiring project will help the students appreciate that they can have a special connection with children in Japan, perhaps creating interest in the first-graders in learning more about that Pacific island nation.

Mary Seehafer asked us to get the word out that she’s holding a fundraisier at The Hill Bar & Grill in downtown Morgan Hill for Organs ‘R’ Us. The fundraiser is presented by Team Wicked. Raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each or 5 tickets for $20 Saturday April 11 at 2 p.m.

Thank you Morgan Hill dentist Jon Hatakeyama for letting us know the Teachers Aid Coalition had a record-breaking turnout for its spring give-away at P.A. Walsh STEAM Academy March 19. Teachers gathered supplies and Hatakeyama estimated teachers spend on average $500 out-of-pocket for supplies. TAC has earmarked $10,000 for its two give-aways for this year. TAC’s biggest fundraiser takes place in February at its popular Chocolate & Wine for Valentine event.

There’s a new business coming to town called Bounce Buses, a fleet of shuttles ranging from a 13-passenger shuttle up to a 56-passenger luxury coach, to take commuters north. The owners hope to launch in mid-April but are asking for help in determining pick-up and drop-off locations. Visit www.surveymonkey.com/s/3VFTFW6 and take a short survey. This could be a great service for the many of workers who commute north, making their rides more pleasant and getting numerous vehicles off the freeways.
