The city of Morgan Hill’s Community Services Department is presenting a free DVD viewing of the documentary film “Sweet Revenge: Turning the Tables on Processed Food” at 6p.m. Wednesday June 17 at the Centennial Recreation Center, 171 W. Edmundson Ave.
The film is geared toward teens and adults, and on-site child care will be provided, said Jennie Tucker, the city’s community services supervisor.
According to material provided by the city of Morgan Hill to publicize the video: “For years we have been told that type-2 diabetes, liver and heart disease are caused by eating too much — it’s all our fault. However, endocrinologist Dr. Robert Lustig explains that the problem is the quality and not the quantity of food we eat. The real culprit is a broken food system made up of processed food, loaded with added sugar and stripped of its natural fiber and nutrients.”
In the film which was originally produced for PBS, Lustig discusses the science behind his book Fat Chance: Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity and Disease.
He demonstrates some practical ways that viewers can turn the tables on processed foods and adopt a lower sugar diet.
Viewers of “Sweet Revenge” will learn:
• Why being thin is no protection from disease
• All calories are not equal and which calories to avoid and which to eat
• How your hormones can make you sick or healthy
• Easy, practical ways to get sugar and processed food out of your life
Light refreshments will be provided and there will also be raffle prizes. A question and answer session with a registered dietitian will take place after the 60-minute documentary.
The sponsors of the film are the city of Morgan Hill, the HealthTrust, and the Santa Clara County First 5 group.
