Thousands of children paraded in costumes through downtown in search of candy and other treats Halloween night. There were vampires, superheros, astronauts and countless versions of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from the movie “Ghostbusters.”

But the Biscardi family came in the spirit of another upcoming holiday — Christmas.

Leah Biscardi, 4, was dressed as a holiday tree. Her sister, Zoe, 1, was dressed as a Christmas gift box and she was pushed in a little “Santa sleigh” made from cardboard covering a children’s toy push-car. Dad Chad and mom Amber were dressed as Santa Claus (minus a beard) and a helpful elf.

The costumes won the Biscardis a $25 gift certificate to Rosy’s at the Beach restaurant when Morgan Hill Life Publisher Marty Cheek, as the “Phantom Costume Judge,” saw their holiday-themed get-up and inquired if the costumes were home-made. “Last Halloween, after we got home, Leah said, ‘Mom, next year can I be a Christmas tree?’ And she stuck with it,” Amber said about the family’s costume decision.

Asked why she was fanatical about going to the Morgan Hill Downtown Association’s Safe Night Oct. 31 event as a holiday tree, Leah’s answer was simple. “I love Christmas trees,” she said. She added that her favorite holiday ornaments are the purple ones.

As for a hybrid costume celebrating both Halloween and Christmas, Amber said: “Why not? We love both holidays, so why not combine them into one?”
