David Fritts
David Fritts, 68, passed away early Friday evening on March 16, from complications of sarcoidosis. Born in the Midwest, his family moved to San Jose when he was a young child.
After enlisting in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, he maintained the helicopters used in the search and rescue of downed pilots. He received a commendation medal for meritorious service after a particularly grueling rescue operation.
David built upon this early avionics experience to have a long, successful career in Silicon Valley electronics. Despite not being able to complete his education after returning home, David was a big supporter of education for all, especially in the STEM fields.
He enjoyed photography, traveling, and making poppy jasper jewelry for family and friends he loved, eschewing any commercialization of his work.
A “country boy” at heart, our beloved David was always the first to engage, comfort, and help others. He cheerfully volunteered with the Santa Clara Valley Science and Engineering Fair Association, the South Valley Science Fair, the Morgan Hill branch of the American Association of University Women, and the Morgan Hill Historical Society, never asking for or accepting accolades for his support
Family and friends will miss his infectious smile, kind words, and humble, winning ways. In lieu of flowers, mourners desiring to do so may contribute to Quilts of Valor. David was incredibly touched when he received his quilt last year, and spent many of his final hours at home before being hospitalized wrapped in its comfort.
