Published in the January 16 – 29, 2019 issue of Morgan Hill Life
This concerns the story on the front page of the Jan. 2, 2019 Morgan Hill Life that refers to the ICE protest. I would like to see a story that states “Morgan Hill resident supports ICE.”
Your headline reads “12 Mexican nationals arrested for unlawful presence in the U.S.” It could and should read “12 illegal immigrants who entered the country illegally were arrested for breaking the law.”
I personally support the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. I support the president and I support enforcing the laws of this country and am sure there are many citizens who are of the same frame of mind.
I was born and raised in the city of Morgan Hill, went to school here and started my career in the fire service here. I am the fourth generation to live on the property and the fifth, sixth and seventh are here also.
My great-great-grandfather served several terms as sheriff of Santa Clara County in the late 1800s. My father was a reserve police officer in the city of Morgan Hill. My brother and I are retired firefighters. My cousin is a probation officer and my granddaughter is a police officer.
I am disturbed by the citizens that staged this rally that don’t support enforcing the laws of this country. These people certainly have the right to their opinions. But I want people to know there are those of us who feel differently and support the actions of ICE. I believe illegal immigration will bring this country to its knees. The costs of illegal immigration are staggering. The taxpayers foot the bill for all of these costs.
I feel the mayor, Rich Constantine, was elected to represent all the citizens of Morgan Hill. He is leading this city down a dangerous path. The mayor’s duty is to make sure all the laws are enforced, not to encourage civil uprising.
What is happening to our beautiful town? Recently there was an article in this paper, and the chief of police stated that he would not prosecute illegals. He didn’t say “sanctuary city” but he might as well have had.
Once again, it is a dangerous path when our elected and appointed officials start picking and choosing the laws they want to enforce.
If I break the law I am punished. Why should I or any individual or group of individuals be exempt from any of our laws?
I would tell the mayor that my heart breaks for the future of my great-grandsons as I see what is happening in this state and in the country.
If we had a wall along the border that stopped illegal border crossing we would not have people in detention centers to suffer as it is claimed they do. It would also deter the flow of drugs into the United States.
