Foothill Music Theater brings this energetic Tony nominated production of “Bullets Over Broadway” to the Lohman stage. Melissa Carey directs with wild abandon – she amazingly turns the tiny Lohman stage with scenic designer Andrew Brethaupt. into a night club, a roof top, a bedroom and a train compartment plus anything else needed with the turn of the stage. Don’t blink or you will miss a grand take-off of the roaring twenties.
Taken from Woody Allen’s screenplay with the stage play by Woody Allen and Douglas McGrath is a wild fast moving show of pure entertainment
A solid, strong cast carries the complicated dialogue with clear effort with great sound by Andrew Heller. Carla Befera takes on the part of Helen St Clair with a glorious vengeance and delicious comedy touches she plays an over the hill actress needing a shot in the arm of her career Jocelyn Pickett delightfully takes on the part of Olive (girlfriend of her gangster boyfriend) Nick, (a convincing Steve Repetti) who backs Adam Cotugno takes the role of David Shayne the Broadway playwright who will be backed as long as Olive is in the play. Nick Mandracchia ( a convicting Cheech, Nick’s head gang member,) who has a knack getting rid of people and rewriting the script better than the original. Add to this an exceptional cast including Mister Woofles, (Cardie a darling 5 month old puppy making her stage debut from Pets In Need.)
Include old standard jazz numbers like up A Lazy River, Tiger Rag, Let’s Misbehave to name just a few and you have an special, entertaining moment in theater.
