On another note, here we are on the other side of summer and music is still in the air everywhere. I had the opportunity to experience the Gilroy Live Music Series firsthand with the band Low Noon from the Fresno area. It reminded me of the early days of Morgan Hill’s series that would happen in the streets of downtown.

It’s a little different with the addition of food trucks, but has a lot of local merchant participation and a very good local feel. Even the music was down home and fun without the over abundance of brass and female back-up vocalists. The band put out a mix of originals and covers with the perfect blend of instrumentation.  I hope they come back to the South County area again.

Since I mentioned the San Jose Summer Jazz Fest I must also point out that The Mountain Winery in Saratoga has some great shows in August featuring Boz Scaggs, Jackson Browne, The Temptations, Kris Kristofferson and Taj Mahal to name a few. If you have never experienced this venue you really owe it to yourself as a live music fan to splurge a little (a lot), and treat yourself to a wonderful music experience. Close to home, Morgan Hill’s Friday Night Music Series presented by the Chamber of Commerce has been nothing short of a total success.

The crowds have grown annually and so have the sponsors as the music continues to drive people to the Downtown Amphitheater every Friday evening. Aug. 2 will see Uptown Funk as the headliner. Their name says it all, funky and fun with a tight horn section and nice harmonies. Guaranteed you will be up and dancing even if you are still in your seat.

The Heat will perform the night of Aug. 9. They are your all dance party music band playing pop, dance, rock, funk and hip-hop.

Journey Revisited takes the stage Aug. 16. This band is a dead-on tribute to the original band by the bay emulating the sound and feel of Journey. Even the lead singer Frank House looks quite a bit like Steve Perry.

On Aug. 23 Caravanserai will be back with their tribute to Santana featuring Leo Herrera and his near perfect Carlos sustaining guitar notes with his right hand man Alfred Lazo on lead vocals and percussion.

The Friday Night Music Series closes out  their summer series with  The Boys of Summer, a national touring tribute to The Eagles.
