Weeelllll, I’m sure you all agree in this unprecedented time of our lives that this really, really sucks. However, Americans as a whole and particularly the citizens of Morgan Hill are resilient. We will get through this. During the past few weeks I have seen so much caring and acts of kindness displayed by people when shopping for necessities, and I congratulate you all. A special shout out goes to Tina Leslie, who gave me her one-per-person sanitary wipes for my business when there were no more on the store shelves.

I want to first let you know the Morgan Hill Downtown Association Wine Stroll Committee postponed the Wine Stroll event until Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020. We had been holding off with a glimmer of hope that a spring event would also be a celebration of being able to get out into the world. But to our chagrin, it’s not going to be possible. So, stay tuned in the coming months for more details. The wineries and merchants are already signaling they can’t wait.

The Brew Crawl is now to be determined, so stay tuned for more information as well.

In the interim, there are many businesses in town trying to keep their lights on that need your support.  A couple of resources to check for restaurants are the Facebook Group — Morgan Hill Take Out and Delivery Options and www.morganhillunited.com/surprise-me.

Restaurants that have reached out to me thus far offering wine and beer to-go are Bubbles & Brew, House of Siam, and Rosy’s at the Beach (cocktails as well). As more information comes in, we’ll get it out to you.

Kelly’s Brewing Company and The Running Shop and Hops have beer to-go. Many of our wineries are open for retail, club pick-up, and some are even delivering locally offering discounts.  Clos La Chance is posting weekly sales and are shipping to you directly.  Here is the Wineries of Santa Clara website for who’s doing what: www.santaclarawines.com. Laura at TenFiveOne Cider Company is offering free delivery of growlers and kegs throughout Morgan Hill, as well as growler refills.

Again, check social media and the net for information on hours and availability at all locations.

If you don’t feel comfortable driving into town, call for gift certificates. As of this writing, House of Siam and Bubbles & Brew are offering $50 gift certificates for $40.

And please remember our other businesses. Jodie at Bike Therapy on Depot said they’re open for sales and service. Check with them for hours and availability.

Otherwise, what more do you have to do right now than clean house, the garage, read a book and watch TV? The kids and your beloved are likely drivin’ you nuts.  The television has been on way too much. So head over to Booksmart and pick up some great reading material.

RAM Insurance continues to operate as an “essential” business being part of the Financial Services Industry.

Your Realtors and other financial professionals are working from home and ready to serve as well.  Our current situation is so fluid with new information day-to-day.

As I was preparing this column, Victoria Attanasio from Amare Real Estate Sales & Property Management, and Terry Moriyama of Intero/Air For Paws, had been providing up-to-date details in their world. As of March 32, residential real estate has been added to the list of “Essential Services” with restrictions to include virtual tour showings.

Along these lines, Zoom meetings have become apropos.

Hair salons are considered “non- essential.” My bet is that most women would not agree with that.

Purchasing products from your hair salon is extremely helpful to their business. Rebecca at Three Red Heads put together color touch up kits for clients who are brave enough to tackle their roots at home — [email protected].

A Visionary Beauty Salon and Hair Restoration Center will offer free hair consultation via phone and video. My guess is many if not all of your favorite salons are offering special deals and gift certificates, so reach out to them directly.

Bankers are available and taking extraordinary sanitizing measures. I was in Chase the other day and watched as a banker sanitized everything in her office between customers. When it was my turn, I stood so she wouldn’t have to wipe everything down again, lol.

And when you see a police officer patrolling the city, make sure you give ‘em the peace sign because they’re still out there against the odds serving and protecting us from everything else.

Be sure to check on your elderly neighbors and ask what you can do to help make their homebound life a little easier.

In closing, be safe, hug your kids, and wash your hands by singing Happy Birthday three times.
