The Pintello Comedy Theater’s new show is playwright Norm Foster’s “Looking,” a hilarious examination of the trouble with human nature during courtship. It promises to be full of laughter and heart in the pursuit of romance in the modern world.

“’Looking’ is about looking for love,” the play’s director Whitney Pintello told us. “There are four different people and they’re in the dating scene and one of them decides to answer an ad and go on a blind date with somebody. We sort of watch the awkwardness of people having trouble finding a partner.”

The show was written before online dating became popular, so Pintello updated it a little bit so they’re searching online. This is a show the Gilroy-based theater company did 11 years ago, and it was really popular  with audiences. The fresh new cast is made up of Nick Fryou, CJ Patereau, Chloe Angst and Maddi Alipaz, all alumni of other Pintello Comedy Theater shows.

“The characters bring a lot of really natural life to situations that we see all the time and we don’t always see the humor in them,” Pintello said. “They’re people who don’t know how to deal with awkward social situations. It’s very true to life and very naturalistic and I think a lot of people will identify with these characters.”

“Looking” opens May 6 and runs until May 28. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at www.pintellocomedy.

The Morgan Hill Aquatic Foundation has donated new tents and backstroke flags, a total of $4,685.49, for the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center. The Morgan Hill Aquatic Foundation was recognized for their donation at the April 19 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting.

The Morgan Hill Aquatics Center opened in 2004. During the past 18 years, the community and visitors have flocked to the facility for aquatics programming including lap swim, aqua fitness, swim lessons, and recreation swim during the summer months. The Morgan Hill Aquatics Center is part of the Centennial Recreation Center membership, allowing pool access to members, as well as daily drop-in rates for non-members.

Programming is also available through the city’s recreation division and can be found online at www.mhreconline.com. The backstroke flags and tents will be used during local and regional swim meets.

“We’re thankful for the continued support and partnership from the Morgan Hill Aquatic Foundation,” said Jennie Tucker, recreation manager for the city of Morgan Hill. “With their support, we have been able to continue to enhance offerings of swim lessons, access to programming, and supporting the ongoing sports tourism at the facility.”

The Morgan Hill Aquatics Center is open year-round for lap swim and aqua fitness programming. The facility opens for summer recreation swim in June of 2022. For additional information, including programming and pool schedules, visit www.mhaquaticscenter.com.

The Gilroy Branch of the American Association of University Women invites the public to view a collection of custom quilts designed and created by quilters throughout the Bay Area.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 7, at the IFDES Lodge, 250 Old Gilroy St..

Attendees will have the opportunity to view custom quilts and the stories the quilts tell through fabric, color, and design. Each quilt takes hours to produce a finished piece, and patterns are based on mathematical calculations to ensure the balance and symmetry.

Although a leisure art in today’s world, quilting responded to necessity in its early history in America by providing bedding, recycling of fabric, and helped support war efforts during the two world wars. Some heritage quilts at the Quilt Show available for viewing are more than 50 years old.

As a part of the Quilt Show, attendees are invited to enjoy a light luncheon of tea sandwiches and dessert. In addition, a bed turning exhibit of quilts, demonstrations on quilting techniques, a boutique, raffles, and a chance to win a custom designed Opportunity Quilt are all part of the $30 ticket.

Proceeds from the Gilroy AAUW Quilt Show underwrite scholarships for graduating seniors, as well as sending girls exiting the 7th grade to the Tech Trek residential STEM program.

Gilroy AAUW has been supporting student scholarships for 30 years and Tech Trek for 20 years, providing pathways into science and math careers for young women.
