TheaterWorks brings in a show that is easy to hear, see, and look at

By Camille Bounds

A quiet library in northern Vermont tells the story of a group of people that use the line that straddles the library, one side the US and the other Canada. Sounds off the wall, but the play “A Distinct Society” is a true place and story that tells the  involvement of people, and tries  to make the moment mean something to their lives

A solid, strong cast of five talented, seasoned adults bring playwright Kareem Fahmy’s hard to believe story of an Iranian father (James Rana ) using the moment of time and geography to see his daughter (Vaneh Assadourian). With uniformed U.S. Customs and  Border patrol officer Bruce Lard  (Kenny Scott), trying to keep  border rules of the area while trying to  hold his job  while romancing the liberian Carrie Puff while Declan Sheehan (Dasniel Allitt) an Irish Canadian teen age boy who skips school to hang out at the library and enjoy getting into everybody’s business. Director Giovanna Sardelli balances  characters with delicate staging and movement. The meticulous adaptation and direction  draws the best from the actors and produces a captivating experience.

As usual the creative team at TheaterWorks brings in a show that is easy to hear, see, and look at with Jo Winiarski’s creative scenic designs, Elton Bradman’s Sound Design, Dina El-Aziz’s costumes  and Pamila Z. Grey’s lighting.
