Learn About Scouts

Line Dancing

San Martin Lions Club
• Play Bingo and help raise funds for the San Martin Lions Club, 12415 Murphy Ave. Doors open at 4 p.m., early bird games start at 5:45 p.m. and regular bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. They play 15 games and also have flash and Cherrybells available for sale. Buy in is a two pack for $30, extra packs are $5 and early birds are $5.

Flower Lovers Meet
• The Flower Lovers meet from 12:15 to 2 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road. This month features guest speaker Sharon McCray, a certified Master Gardener and regular contributor to the Morgan Hill Life. She will be speaking on how to propagate plants as well as providing a demonstration.

Farmers’ Market
• The Morgan Hill Certified Farmers’ Market brings together farmers, food producers and consumers from Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and Hollister from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Third and Depot streets. A family-friendly Kids Craft is included with fun educational projects to delight all ages. Parking is available at the Caltrain depot, accessed via Butterfield Boulevard.
Tour Morgan Hill Museum
• The Morgan Hill Museum and Hiram Morgan Hill House are open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with docents giving tours. Learn about the city’s history and see some new additions to the museum. The Villa Mira Monte grounds are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, where visitors can enjoy the Centennial History Trail and the rose garden at leisure.

Historic Downtown Walking Tours

Virtual Photo Exhibit
• The Morgan Hill Photography Club is presenting a virtual photographic exhibition through Oct. 15. The exhibit is entitled “People” and consists of 28 images by 11 artists who have photographed people in a manner that captures their moods or personalities, or shows them engaging in a variety of activities and unique situations. Book Sale
• The Friends of the Morgan Hill Library will hold a book sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Friends Bookstore in the library, 660 W. Main Ave. Current members or those who join may enter early from 9 to 10 a.m. A 15-month membership through Dec. 2024 is $10. Members also receive half off any book each month in the bookstore. Children’s books are 10 cents. Other books and media for all ages are $1 or less, with some special sets included. International Celebration
• The Morgan Hill Library, Culture & Arts Commission (LCAC) is organizing the 2nd International Celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Community & Cultural Center to showcase the wonderful international cultures of our world present within our community. The theme is ‘The Global Groove Experience — Celebrating Our Mosaic of Cultures.” An assortment of world music, dance and enchanting presentations will take place. Cultural booths will expand your knowledge and perspective through fun information on a diverse range of traditional arts, crafts, and customs. Nacho Moya Reception
• A reception for local artist Nacho Moya, the recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Award and the Poppy Jasper award,
begins at 6 p.m. in the Gavilan College Art Gallery, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. More than 20 of Moya’s latest paintings will be displayed Attendees will be able to chat with the artist at the free reception and enjoy light refreshments, while viewing the paintings and networking with community dignitaries. Growing Vegetables
• Learn how to grow a successful and productive vegetable garden from fall through spring from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Gilroy Library, 350 W. Sixth St. Find out how many cool season vegetables are easy to grow. Soil preparation, watering, fertilizing, disease and pest management will also be discussed.
OFP Annual Bowling Event
• Whether you like to bowl for fun or competitively, this event is right up your alley. It benefits Operation Freedom Paws and lifesaving service dog teams. It takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Bowl. The cost is $38 for three games for both fun and tournament play. Book Sale
• The Friends of Gilroy Library will hold its monthly book sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library, 350 W. Sixth St. Books will be $5 per bag for members and $8 per bag for non-members. Membership starts at $5 per year. The book store regularly charges $1 for a hardback, and $.50 for paperbacks. Children’s $.50 for hardback’s and $.25 for paperbacks. They also carry many audio books, DVDs, and CDs for $1 or $2 with 25 percent off for members. The Isabel Jewell Book Store located in the back of the library foyer is open from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday; 1 to 4 p.m. and Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

• Join others at the Morgan Hill Library Program Room for a Zoom reading and Q&A from 4 to 5 p.m. with Dorothy Lazard, former Oakland librarian and public historian. Lazard received the 2023 Oscar Lewis Award for contributions to Western History from the Book Club of California and the Partners in Preservation Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022 from the Oakland Heritage Alliance. Bat Fest!
• Join Saved By Nature for an evening festival celebrating local animals of the night, with live bats, owls, and other creatures from 4 to 9 p.m. in the meadow at Rancho Canada del Oro Open Space Preserve, 4289 Casa Loma Road, Morgan Hill. It’s a fun time under the stars with a special guest speaker, food trucks, live music, festival games, arts and crafts, mini-pumpkin patch, REI lounge and booths from community partner organizations. Bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy popcorn, cotton candy and your favorite drink while watching a movie under the night sky. Enter the silent auction for a guided fly-fishing trip, a three-night stay in a cabin, and artwork by local artists.
