August is the time to showcase the arts and culture of Morgan Hill during the month-long Festival of the Arts and coming Aug. 16 is Kiefer Sutherland and his band ZZ Lightfoot who will appear at the Downtown Amphitheater, according to ARTTEC Executive Director Gary Harmon. Also appearing that day during the Music for Heroes, which benefits military, firefighter and law enforcement families, are Eddie Money and Davey Pattison’s Gamma.
The many facets of Morgan Hill arts and culture will be highlighted daily through performances, exhibitions, displays, workshops and concerts taking place throughout downtown Morgan Hill.
Friday nights, the Chamber of Commerce Friday Night Music Series will be the featured attraction.
Festival Saturdays at the Downtown Amphitheater will feature benefit concerts with local musicians and acclaimed headliners. Each Saturday concert raises funds and awareness for local causes. Nonprofits will also have booths at the concerts to promote their cause. An arts pavilion will highlight local artists.
Festival of the Arts attracts visitors to Morgan Hill from throughout California and beyond. Attendance at some of the events is expected to be about 5,000, according to Harmon. The cross-promotion and exposure opportunities will bring return visitors to the other events taking place. Special incentives and perks will entice visitors to attend multiple events, exposing new people to events they might not have otherwise attended.
The festival will serve as a career training opportunity for high school students who receive hands-on experience as ARTTEC crew members.
The participating musicians, industry professionals and celebrity mentors will work one-on-one with the student crew in all phases producing the festival. The skills developed through ARTTEC prepare students for opportunities in any occupation, provide career experience, and instill the self confidence needed to give a competitive edge in job interviews, scholarship applications, and college entrance.
