In response to the drought, the city now limits watering even further. Beginning Nov. 1 running through March 31, residents are only allowed to water before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. Wednesdays.
Each irrigation station is limited to 15 minutes per day. All residents and businesses using water provided by the city are required to comply.
In addition, all residents are encouraged to eliminate irrigation whenever there is adequate rainfall and to look for additional ways to conserve water.

The Running Shop owner Paul Rakitin told us his store is teaming up with the South Valley Running Club and The San Martin Lions Club to donate shoes for the Mini Mermaid running program out of San Martin/Gwinn School. Lions club members gave a check for $1,000 to the SVRC, and Rakitin ordered shoes for the kids at cost so the girls could have brand new shoes for the Nov. 2 Morgan Hill Marathon and the 5K race they’re participating in.
If you would like to help out financially for this endeavor, call Paul at (650) 576-7466.

What dedication Cheri Devlin shows to the Morgan Hill Downtown Association. Even though she was going through labor contractions, the pregnant board president ran the Oct. 9 afternoon board meeting. Six hours later at 7:22 p.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cheri gave birth to Silas Ray Devlin, an 8 pound, 7 ounce “bundle of sweetness.” The name Silas was chosen because of the biblical theme of Cheri and Mark Devlin’s two other children, Isaac and Abigail. We wish the Devlin family all their best with their new baby boy.

The Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling four years ago is hitting our county and Morgan Hill school district election campaigns in a big way. A flood of independent expenditure money from a Sacramento source is paying for the marketing of five Morgan Hill candidates. According to the Electiontrack.com website updated for Oct. 24, the California Charter Schools Association Advocates Independent Expenditure Committee has spent $6,571 each in support of school board candidates Armando Benavides, Gino Borgioli, Brenda Cayme and Janine Moreno. The charter school committee also provided $139,316 in support of incumbent Julia Hover-Smoot for the Santa Clara County Education Board race. Her opponent Claudia Rossi has raised a total of about $8,000 from friends and supporters as of Oct. 24, $3,731 of which came from the local teachers union.
