Three Morgan Hill residents who work out at 24-Hour Fitness in Morgan Hill took home awards at last month’s San Jose Bodybuilding and Bikini Championship at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
Dylan Guynn, 18, took second place in the teen category, Violeta Macedo, 27, took first place in the novice class by height — she’s 5-feet, 2 ½-inches — and first in the open bikini class, and Sindee Torres, 36, took second place in the novice class by height — she’s 4-feet, 6-inches tall. For all three it was their first competition.
Guynn, who graduated from Sobrato High School and is moving to the Los Angeles area in August to further his bodybuilding career and attend Santa Monica City College, said he likes the positive reaction he gets from people.
“A lot of people tell me they get inspired and motivated,” he said.
Macedo, who moved to Morgan Hill from the Fresno area as a teen, works at Artistry in Hair, said she entered for the experience and was not expecting to win.
“I’ve always been into fitness and I (recently) went to the LA Fitness Expo and I was motivated to compete,” she said. “Now, I got bit by the bug.”
Torres, who has three children, 15, 11 and 6, lost out to a 20-year-old woman with no children.
“This just started out as a journey to lose weight,” said the manager at Fidelity National Title.
All three said they enjoy the positive physical, mental and social benefits they get from working out regularly.
Guynn is now training for teen nationals, while Macedo and Torres are training for an August competition in Sacramento.
