Musical is a complicated look at romance

A Drama Desk-award winner, “The Last Five Years” comes with music, book and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown and brings this delicate story of two people at both beginning and the end of a marriage. Each telling their position – Jamie from the beginning and Cathy from the end — the intimate cabaret-style theater tells the story of Cathy and Jamie and their handling of a marriage of two people going in different directions. He is becoming a successful published writer and she is trying to unsuccessfully break into the theatre world.
Alicia Teeter and Chris Janssen handle these interesting, musical roles, (15 songs) that cover everything from pop, jazz, Latin and folk with strong expression and excellent voices. Director/Vocal Director Diane Milo keeps the actors moving for 90 straight minutes with a change of wardrobe at each appearance. (Kudos to their dressers.)
Here is a well done complicated look at romance, forward and backward that will make some of us reminisce and smile. Reservations are a must, tickets are picked up and paid for at the door. There is also a concession that has wine and drinks available on premises. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with an 8 p.m. curtain. Check for matinees – doors open at 1pm with a 2pm curtain.
